Nice Day for a Ride!

There was no rain today and the temperature dipped considerably.  So after breakfast I went out for a ride.  The gravel roads were in great shape and I am not.  It is very obvious that there is no frost in the ground.  I got ten miles in and called it a day.

We then spent some time working in the house.  There is a lot to do before JJ's graduation party.

The Green Machine: So with the revelation that JJ is not going to race this year I took the liberty of setting up the Green Machine for gravel riding.  This is my first Fat Bike and I really like it.  Here is the build that will stay on this bike for a while.

No Name 740mm aluminum bars (these came on the bike)
Sette 30.9 aluminum seatpost

Holy Rolling Darryl/DT Swiss 240 rear hub, 17.5 offset Rear Wheel
Surly Rim Strips

Still really like this bike!

More than enough high end gear. Hoping that as I get into better shape the low end will be enough? The only change that I would consider on this bike is adding a carbon fork if I could get one for a good price.

This will also serve as my bad weather winter bike for back road riding.  Hard to call this a beater as it is really nice!

Other Bike Stuff: Spent a little time in the bike shop and cleaned off the work bench.  Also did a little organizing.  Put the Bontrager Hodag tires back on the Farley.  I think I will leave it this way year round.  This will be my summer bike.

Hopefully the rest of the parts will be in for the Vortex this week and it will be up and running by the weekend.  We are supposed to have a temperature drop by the weekend and should be able to get a couple rides in.

Have a great week everyone!

Summer Vacation: Day 10, Heading Home.

Sunday would be a long day of travel as we would make the trek home in one day.  Still shorter than driving from Marquette. We had breakfast and started to pack up.  I had put the bikes on the van Saturday evening while the grill was heating up and loaded a few things up.  We managed to get on the around just a few minutes after 12:00pm.   Michelle would take the first leg of the drive at the wheel of the van and I would rest.  We made a stop at a rest area in Manistique and I took a few photos. A lighthouse for Michelle.  A mouse in a tuxedo! We got back on the road and stopped at another rest area.   Very cool! Brendan made a friend. The were not to bad. Our next stop would be St. Ignace.  We wanted to eat at Clyde's Drive In.  However, after arriving the place was packed.  So we went to B.C. Pizza again.  After lunch we made our way to Castle Rock as we were not able to climb it on o...

End of Summer

The Best Time to Bike! On Saturday I traveled with Raymond to the Bear Claw Epic.  This was the second annual race and the second time up there for Raymond and I.  We got there with plenty of time to spare and got ready to go. Farley ready to go. I registered for Beginner Fat Bike or at least I thought so?  I felt pretty good and knowing that I only had one lap to do I went all out.  I passed several riders through the race and felt I did pretty good.  This course has a lot of climbing and rewards you with some nice downhills. After I finished my race I put on a fresh shirt and went out on the course with the camera and my new lens.  I took over 400 pictures and headed back to the start finish after Raymond finished his race. Raymond on his second lap. And the final climb. The beginner awards were going on and they announced my name as first place for Beginner Men 50-59.  I was surprised, but did not protest.  Aft...
