February Is Here!

So we have come into February and the unusual weather has continued.  We have seen nearly 50 degrees and now back to freezing temperatures.  For me the month has not started out good.  I came down with a cold on Sunday, which has turned into a sinus infection.  Missed the first four days of work this week.  Dr put me on very strong dose of antibiotics and was told I may not start feeling better for 10 days!

To make things even better I had a crown come off a molar yesterday also.  Dentist put the crown back on for a temporary fix.  Go back in a a couple of weeks to get fitted for a new permanent crown. He is concerned that there may be some decay so could be in for more extensive work?

On the bike scene I only got outdoors to ride twice in January.  Now with my most recent health set back I may not get out this month.  Good thing I decided to not do Barry Roubaix!

I ordered a few parts and they are starting to come in.  The first thing to arrive was a Sunrace 11-42 cassette which is going on the Green Machine.  I took the cassette off of it for the Vortex.  I have a set of Carbon bars coming for the Vortex as well as a 30 tooth chain ring.  I will be moving some other parts around so that I can have the lowest gearing on the fat bikes.  The carbon 29er will also be a 1x10 when everything is done.  I will update as things arrive.

The largest rings of the cassette are all connected.  The rest are loose with spacers.

Stay tuned there may also be another bike project coming up.  I won't announce that until I am sure it is going to come together.

Mom's Birthday: Next Wednesday, February 10 is mom's birthday.  She will be 89.  We will be doing something special with her on that day I hope.

Hopefully things will start heading in the right direction and I will be able to get some riding in before the end of the month.  If not there is always March.  Michelle and I already have a get away planned for our anniversary weekend!  Really looking forward to that.

Till next time, good night!

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...

As I said in my previous post I had purchased a few things and would be introducing and reviewing them here.  Up next are: Surly Rim Strips:  These rime strips are designed for 80mm rims.  They also make them for 65mm and 100mm rims. They come in several colors. These are red and will go on the wheels that I have on the Vortex.  They are light weight, easy to work with and very durable.  I have these in various colors on most of my fat bike wheels.   Topeak Joe Blow Fat Tire Pump:  Following is from the Topeak Website: JoeBlow™ Fat The first floor pump exclusively designed for low pressure fat tire bikes.
