Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.

You may kiss the bride!

We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.

I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride on the fat bike.  After this we went our to see my mom and do some yard work for her.  JJ grilled while we started working.  We headed home around 9pm and started to prepare for church in the morning.

Sunday came quickly.  Dawn and Reuben were out of town and Michelle and I were running the service.  We had a few bumps along the way, but managed to get things together and had a nice service.  Scottie was a big help.  Michelle did praise and worship with Helen and I did the message.  We invited Scott over for lunch and had burgers and polish sausage.

After lunch JJ and I went out for a short ride.  We made better time than our ride together earlier in the week.  This is JJ's training for Ore to Shore as well as mine.  It was also my first ride on my rebuilt Gravity Single Speed.  I put off road drop bars on this bike and road disk brakes.  I really liked it.  Great bike for the back roads around here.

After the ride I went to my old house and did a little work.  I then returned home and cut the grass.  We had a nice meal and settled in for the night.

We will be back to work tomorrow and Scottie's graduation party is Saturday.  Another busy week!

End of Summer

The Best Time to Bike! On Saturday I traveled with Raymond to the Bear Claw Epic.  This was the second annual race and the second time up there for Raymond and I.  We got there with plenty of time to spare and got ready to go. Farley ready to go. I registered for Beginner Fat Bike or at least I thought so?  I felt pretty good and knowing that I only had one lap to do I went all out.  I passed several riders through the race and felt I did pretty good.  This course has a lot of climbing and rewards you with some nice downhills. After I finished my race I put on a fresh shirt and went out on the course with the camera and my new lens.  I took over 400 pictures and headed back to the start finish after Raymond finished his race. Raymond on his second lap. And the final climb. The beginner awards were going on and they announced my name as first place for Beginner Men 50-59.  I was surprised, but did not protest.  Aft...

Summer Vacation: Day 10, Heading Home.

Sunday would be a long day of travel as we would make the trek home in one day.  Still shorter than driving from Marquette. We had breakfast and started to pack up.  I had put the bikes on the van Saturday evening while the grill was heating up and loaded a few things up.  We managed to get on the around just a few minutes after 12:00pm.   Michelle would take the first leg of the drive at the wheel of the van and I would rest.  We made a stop at a rest area in Manistique and I took a few photos. A lighthouse for Michelle.  A mouse in a tuxedo! We got back on the road and stopped at another rest area.   Very cool! Brendan made a friend. The were not to bad. Our next stop would be St. Ignace.  We wanted to eat at Clyde's Drive In.  However, after arriving the place was packed.  So we went to B.C. Pizza again.  After lunch we made our way to Castle Rock as we were not able to climb it on o...
