Vacation Day 6

Thursday was our travel day from Mackinaw City to Marquette.  We were loaded up and out of the cabin at 11am.

After dropping off trash and checking out we crossed the Mighty Mac.  After landing in St. Ignace we went to BC Pizza and all had the pizza buffet.  Great pizza and a nice salad bar, drinks included!  Our cheapest meal of the trip.  From there we did our annual hike up Castle Rock.

My beautiful wife!

They are confused.

Dad would have liked this one.

Now they got it!

Bull Tongue!

We departed Castle Rock, fueled up and headed for Manistique.  We were in search of the Palms Book State Park and the Big Spring or Kitch-iti-kipi!  After some road construction and a closed road we managed to find our destination.  It was worth the hassle!

Amazing trout.

Your transportation over the spring.

This is a natural spring that is 40 feet deep and you take the raft across to view the fish.  The water temperature stays constant at 45 degrees year round and the spring stays open even in winter.  The water is crystal clear allowing you to view the amazing trout in the water.  After our tour we went up to the gift shop and enjoyed some incredible ice cream!

We then map quested our next leg to Johnny Dog's in Munising.  This was an adventure in itself as we encountered a long stretch of dusty gravel road.  After about an hour of driving we arrived in Munising only to find Johnny Dog's closed at 5:30pm on this day.  Sorry for the Inconvenience the sign said.  Well life goes on.

We got back on the road and arrived at the Comfort Suites in Marquette.  We moved in and headed to Applebee's for half off appetizers.  After stuffing our selves we returned to our room and settled in for the night.

Summer Vacation: Day 8, Marquette

Day out started out cool, cloudy and windy.  It would stay like that the entire day.  After Michelle got up we took a little walk in the park by the bay.  It was very cool and returned to the house.  The plan for the day was to go to Marquette to visit Raymond and his family and have dinner with them. I received a text from Raymond that informed me the weather was not good there and it had not been for the entire week.  It had been very cold and windy.  He told me to bring warm clothes and we would probably be inside. We arrived at there location just after 3:00pm and it was cold and windy.  They told us it had been worse earlier in the day.  After talking for a while Angel started to make burgers and hot dogs on the grill.  We walked down to the beach with Raymond to discover that the beach was not really there.  The water has been so high this year and the waves were coming in so hard there was no beach.  They said they h...

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

My Dad

My last post was from Michelle and my anniversary celebration.  The day after we returned I received a call from my mom.  My dad was not doing well and needed to go to the hospital.  Michelle and I went to their house and we all took dad to the emergency room.  We had known for some time that he had Pulmonary Fibrosis for which there is no cure.  He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit later that day.  This would turn out to be his final journey. While in the Intensive Care Unit he received outstanding care from the staff at Covenant HealthCare.  Their compassionate care can not be equaled anywhere.  Dad's personality and belief in his creator also helped the staff and us through this difficult time.  During this time Dad was more concerned about us than himself.  He knew that soon he would meet Jesus face to face.  That was his comfort.  I made a promise to him that I would take care of mom and my family, just as he had c...
