Bike Changes and Birthdays!

During our vacation I had to partially disassemble Brendan's bike and put it in the van so that we could take five bikes with us.  Putting it back together and setting it back up I discovered that his seat post was already at its highest position.  Last year Michelle thought the bike was to big and this year it appears that he is outgrowing it.  He would really like a Fat Bike.  However, it does not make sense to get him one till his growth slows down.  What will we do.

Since I got my Fat Bike I have not rode my mountain bike.  JJ has started his training for the Soft Rock and I believe he will do it.  So I am going to give him my carbon bike and Michelle will get his 29er.  So the other day I sold my old NRS frame that Michelle had been riding.  This was the bike that I did my racing on in 2006 and ended up 3rd in the MMBA points series.  The bike served us well.

I have already started moving parts from the carbon bike over to my fat bike.  The fat bike will now have a 1x10 drivetrain and hydraulic brakes.  I will move the parts from JJ's 29er to the carbon bike and then build the 29er for Michelle with parts from her old bike and a few new parts.  After the New Year we will see how tall Brendan is and I will pick up a cheap frame and build his bike.  At the rate he is growing he could be on my fat bike in three years and I should have another one by then.  I will post pictures as I progress through this process.  The goal is to get a few mountain bike rides in yet this fall.

This weekend is JJ and my birthdays. 17 for JJ and 51 for me.  Hard to believe.  The festivities will start today at Genji and Sunday at Backwoods and then here for cake and ice cream.  Mom will be coming out on Sunday to join us.

 Time to change!

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

They come in several colors. These are red and will go on the wheels that I have on the Vortex.  They are light weight, easy to work with and very durable.  I have these in various colors on most of my fat bike wheels.   Topeak Joe Blow Fat Tire Pump:  Following is from the Topeak Website: JoeBlow™ Fat The first floor pump exclusively designed for low pressure fat tire bikes. Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...
