We started our vacation our vacation five days ago after our regular Thursday visit with my mom.  The first leg of the trip was to drive as far north as Gaylord.  We arrived in Gaylord close to 9:00pm.  We checked into the hotel and went next door to a restaurant and grabbed a snack.  We then went back to the room and settled in. We took our time getting on the road Friday morning.  Our destination was Marquette and we decided to make a little detour.  Michelle had wanted to go to Petosky for a long time so we would stop there.  On the way we did a drive through Boyne Mountain.  I had not been to Boyne since I lasted raced there.  That has to be at least ten years.  It has grown and changed a lot in that time. We had a great Father's Day weekend.  It started out with rain on Saturday so I did some work in the house.  Then in the afternoon I took Michelle and Brendan to Frankenmuth for an Arts and Crafts Show.  Michelle bought a few things and we also walked the River Place.  We got into the van just in time for the next storm to come through. Father's Day came around quickly and we went to church.  We hosted at our house in the afternoon.  We grilled burgers, homemade brats (Thanks Lou!) and hot dogs.  We had several sides and deserts also.  We really enjoy having the family over.  We tried to get my mom to come out but she would not budge. We sat around and visited till after 9pm. Lou and I got ties! I also received a really nice card from Jay Jay and Kayla. Another great day!

May has been an interesting month.  The downside had been having pneumonia.  That took some time to recover from.  I am back to normal and starting to ride again.  I purchased a set of Jones SG Loop H-Bar for the Vortex.  A very nice improvement to this bike. https://www.densbikepost.com/blog/  You can use the link above to see my posts on this. We had a nice Mother's day celebration with both of our mom's and Michelle. Sorry no pictures, they are still on my phone. We did not do anything for Memorial weekend.  Not completely true, we bought a pool.  It will be installed sometime in June. That pretty much covers May.  School will be out at the end of this week and Summer officially starts.

I had decided to not do the Rust Shaker as I was coming down with a cold or at least thought so.  The following Thursday (a week after the symptoms first appeared) I felt that I was loosing my voice.  Things were not getting better and my wife thought something was not right just by looking at me.  I also felt that something was not right.  I called my Dr. and got in that morning.  The Dr. checked me over and I was diagnosed with Pneumonia.  He put me on antibiotics and also prescribed some cough medicine. I am feeling better, however this is a huge setback in my fitness.  I will stay off the bike till after Mother's Day.  This means I will not be doing the Island Lake XC race this month.  Will need to build some fitness back up again.  Should not take long.  I will be looking at events in June to get me back on track for Ore to Shore.  Given the events of this year I will be doing the Shore Rock again.  This will ...

We started our spring break vacation on Friday, March 24 by heading for the west side of the state and Barry-Roubaix.  It was going to be two days on that side of the state before heading to Kentucky.   This is what Barry-Roubaix was like. As the title says it has been some time since my last post here.  I have been very busy with work and bringing my website on line.  You can visit the website here: http://www.densbikepost.com/ We had a weather warm up in January and the USA Cycling Fat Bike Nationals were being held in Grand Rapids on January 28, 2017.  The race was going to take place even if the weather did not cooperate.  It did cool down and there was a dusting of snow. This package was waiting for me when I got home on Thursday.  This is the start of the summer fat bike project.  Below is what was inside. The wheels are Velocity custom built 29+ set up tubeless with Bontrager Chupacabra tires.   Weight of rear wheel with rotor. Front wheel with rotor. My intent is to see how much you can do with one bike and several different wheel sets.  The bike is the Sarma Vortex.  The 29+ fits this bike and also the Bluto.  The Bluto is a tight fit and may at times rub?  The other test will eventually be running a 27.5 wheelset and 3.8-4,5 tire.  This combo would allow me to race in the fat bike class!  From what research tells me the 3.8 tires that are currently available (Bontrager Hodag and Maxis) are more like 3.5 inches.  Then the Bontrager Barbegazzi in 4.5 is massive and will not work with the Bluto fork.  While talking about tire size the 29+ mounted to the Velocity rims me...
