Spring Break 2017

We started our spring break vacation on Friday, March 24 by heading for the west side of the state and Barry-Roubaix.  It was going to be two days on that side of the state before heading to Kentucky.
This is what Barry-Roubaix was like.

We returned home Saturday and relaxed for the evening.  Sunday morning came and we started to prep for our trip to Kentucky.  We left home around 12:30pm for the journey.  We made several stops along the way and arrived at our hotel around 7:30pm and checked in.  We needed to get something to eat and ended up having salad and pizza at LaRosas's.  It was back to the hotel to get a good nights sleep for Monday and the start of our adventures.

Monday morning a check of the weather said that it was going to be a nice day with little chance of rain.  The temperature was also to reach 70 degrees.  We had breakfast at the hotel and decided that it would be a good day to go to the Ark Encounter.  We made it to the Ark around 1:00pm.

This is what you see from the parking lot.

We purchased our tickets and boarded the bus for the ride to the ark.  It was a nice ride to the ark and once there it is very impressive.

We spent several hours in the Ark and could have spent more time.  I would recommend this for any family adventure.

Tuesday we made a trip to the Creation Museum.  Several hours were spent there.  Some very good information displayed to prove the Bible factual and that the earth is only 6,000 years old.  We could of spent more time there, however we did close the place down.  One of the highlights was the Planetarium.  There were also many displays of dinosaurs.

Brendan was really excited to do the Zip Lines.  We signed him up for one of the short courses and he had a great time.

Our last stop was the Gift Shop and then we called it a day.  Michelle and I were really exhausted.  We stopped for something to eat and then went back to the hotel for some well deserved rest.

Wednesday was our trip home.  We decided to break up the ride by stopping at the Toledo Zoo.  Many exhibits were closed for the season.  It was a nice break and we did a speed tour of the zoo in the two hours that we had.

The aquarium was the highlight for us.  It has recently been remodeled and was very nice.

Our last stop was to have dinner and then we did the final drive for home.  A very nice vacation, but always feels good to be home!

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...
