Summer Vacation: Day 8, Marquette

Day out started out cool, cloudy and windy.  It would stay like that the entire day.  After Michelle got up we took a little walk in the park by the bay.  It was very cool and returned to the house.  The plan for the day was to go to Marquette to visit Raymond and his family and have dinner with them.

I received a text from Raymond that informed me the weather was not good there and it had not been for the entire week.  It had been very cold and windy.  He told me to bring warm clothes and we would probably be inside.

We arrived at there location just after 3:00pm and it was cold and windy.  They told us it had been worse earlier in the day.  After talking for a while Angel started to make burgers and hot dogs on the grill.  We walked down to the beach with Raymond to discover that the beach was not really there.  The water has been so high this year and the waves were coming in so hard there was no beach.  They said they had a campfire there the night before and when they got up this morning the wood and everything was gone.  Lake Superior had taken it away.

Approaching the beach.

When we were here 4 or 5 years ago there was at least 20 feet of beach before the water.

After dinner Michelle, Angel and Brendan went rock hunting.  Raymond and I stayed behind and visited.  We were back on the road after 9:30pm to head back to the house.

Saturday we will be returning to Norway, Michigan to visit a Lapidary shop and possibly ride the bikes a bit.

Happy Labor Day!

So we had another busy week leading up to Labor Day Weekend.  On Wednesday we had Brendan's open house for 4th Grade.  We did some shopping after and I sold my Giant OCR. Giant OCR Composite 3 I bought this bike in 2005.  I put some good miles on it over the years.  For about 6 years it had been in the basement on the trainer.  I had rebuilt it this summer and took it out a couple of times.  It just seemed to big now.  I guess I am a little older and less flexible.  I decided to put it up for sale as it just did not fit any longer.  I found a nice young man that was looking for a road bike and he really liked it.  It is going to a good home and will be out on the road where it belongs. The funds from this sale went toward the purchase of a front wheel to go on the Farley and will fit the Bluto.  That wheel should be in some time this week. On Saturday morning we did not have Brendan.  He stayed at mom's with ...

End of Summer

The Best Time to Bike! On Saturday I traveled with Raymond to the Bear Claw Epic.  This was the second annual race and the second time up there for Raymond and I.  We got there with plenty of time to spare and got ready to go. Farley ready to go. I registered for Beginner Fat Bike or at least I thought so?  I felt pretty good and knowing that I only had one lap to do I went all out.  I passed several riders through the race and felt I did pretty good.  This course has a lot of climbing and rewards you with some nice downhills. After I finished my race I put on a fresh shirt and went out on the course with the camera and my new lens.  I took over 400 pictures and headed back to the start finish after Raymond finished his race. Raymond on his second lap. And the final climb. The beginner awards were going on and they announced my name as first place for Beginner Men 50-59.  I was surprised, but did not protest.  Aft...
