Race Day: Part Two, Sight Seeing!

After cleaning up we went and picked up Raymond and his family to take a trip to Ishpeming.  We were going to have a late lunch and then head to Jasper Hill (or Knob).  Angel had never been there and wanted to check it out as she is a Rock Hound like Michelle.

We stopped at Jasper Brewing to have lunch and after filling up went to the hill.

Angel and I found a hole in the hill and decided to check it out.

Looking up.

At the bottom.

Everyone else got a little worried as we did not reach the top.  So they sent Brendan looking for us.  Soon after they all joined us.

We made it to the top of the hill and the view is incredible!

Family photo. I am the handsome one in the back.

We left the hill and headed for downtown Marquette.  We had a little time to kill before the race award ceremony.  The ladies and the kids headed for ice cream and Raymond and I went to Blackrocks Brewing for a beer.  I had never been to Blackrocks and have wanted to stop in ever since we have been coming to the UP.  We had an excellent IPA and listened to the live band for a while.

We made it to the awards in time.  When they announced the awards for Madeline's class they did not announce her at first place.  We discovered then that she would be recognized for fourth overall in the Women's Division.  She was not happy about this.

4th Place Women's Shore Rock (Madeline on Left)!

2nd Place, Men 50-59.

After the awards we went back to Presque Isle.  The kids wanted to jump off the Blackrocks and we thought we would look for the key fob.  We were standing in the cove when Angel bent down and announced that she found the key fob setting on a rock ledge.  There was another family there and the wife informed us that her 3 year old daughter had just found it while digging in the rocks!

Madeline would be the only one that jumped off the rocks that evening.  She jumped four times!  When we were leaving there were so many cars parked it was difficult to get through.  We realized they were all watching the sunset.

We stayed for a short time and returned to the Holiday Inn to set at the pool while the kids swim.  Everyone was hungry so we got pizza and talked for a while.  Raymond and I were completely exhausted at this point.  We called it a night.

Next up, travel day.

Summer Vacation: Day 10, Heading Home.

Sunday would be a long day of travel as we would make the trek home in one day.  Still shorter than driving from Marquette. We had breakfast and started to pack up.  I had put the bikes on the van Saturday evening while the grill was heating up and loaded a few things up.  We managed to get on the around just a few minutes after 12:00pm.   Michelle would take the first leg of the drive at the wheel of the van and I would rest.  We made a stop at a rest area in Manistique and I took a few photos. A lighthouse for Michelle.  A mouse in a tuxedo! We got back on the road and stopped at another rest area.   Very cool! Brendan made a friend. The were not to bad. Our next stop would be St. Ignace.  We wanted to eat at Clyde's Drive In.  However, after arriving the place was packed.  So we went to B.C. Pizza again.  After lunch we made our way to Castle Rock as we were not able to climb it on o...

Mother's Day Part II

On Sunday we celebrated Mother's Day at Church followed by a buffet at the Whistle Stop in Clio.  It was a very good meal and fun for all.   The Bauer's     The Garcia's   The Cody's minus Tyler   Then we celebrated at our house with Michelle's family in the evening with another big feast.    Help Yourselves!   A good time was had by all and one of the best Mother's Day celebrations yet.  Happy Mother's Day, we love you all!

Happy Labor Day!

So we had another busy week leading up to Labor Day Weekend.  On Wednesday we had Brendan's open house for 4th Grade.  We did some shopping after and I sold my Giant OCR. Giant OCR Composite 3 I bought this bike in 2005.  I put some good miles on it over the years.  For about 6 years it had been in the basement on the trainer.  I had rebuilt it this summer and took it out a couple of times.  It just seemed to big now.  I guess I am a little older and less flexible.  I decided to put it up for sale as it just did not fit any longer.  I found a nice young man that was looking for a road bike and he really liked it.  It is going to a good home and will be out on the road where it belongs. The funds from this sale went toward the purchase of a front wheel to go on the Farley and will fit the Bluto.  That wheel should be in some time this week. On Saturday morning we did not have Brendan.  He stayed at mom's with ...
