A Busy Weekend!

After a busy week the weekend was finally upon us.  We picked up Chinese food on the way home and bought dinner for Michelle's parents also.  We enjoyed our food and then settled in and watched TV shows till it was time for bed.

Saturday morning was Brendan's first basketball game of the year.  We got there early and did not see anyone from his team.  I was a little concerned that I got the time wrong.  Shortly after that the coach arrived.  Brendan was pretty excited and soon the game began.  He played really well and they won.  He almost scored also.  He played a lot better than last year and he is on a good team.

As you can see I took some photos.  Which means I used my new Dakine Mission Photo 25L.  First thing you notice is how lite this bag is compared to the old bag.  The shoulder strap design is also much better.  I did find that my larger lens does not fit upright in the bag.  I was still able to fit it in the bag. First experience with the bag was very good.

After getting home we had leftovers from Friday for lunch.  This led to Michelle and I taking a little nap.  After the nap we went to the basement and started to do more cleaning and organizing.  It has been a long ongoing task.  We made a great deal of progress and filled the back of the van with another load of things to donate.

I also managed to install the Surly Rim Strips on the Vortex.  They are a great upgrade for any Fat Bike! Now that I have a system for removing the tubeless ready tires that task was much easier.

We got to bed late, tired and a little sore.  We slept really good and Brendan woke us before 8:00am to get ready for church.  We went to the Methodist Church here in Burt.  It was a nice service and Michelle's mom was giving the message.  Near the end of her message a woman setting behind began to have trouble breathing and blacked out.  911 was called and there was another member of the church that is a paramedic and gave aid.  She was taken to the hospital and was doing well when they were leaving.  Michelle's mom finished her message and we were on our way home.

I made breakfast while Michelle made chicken soup.  Michelle and I then headed for mom's.  One of my aunts had passed away on Thursday.  The showing was in Auburn today.  Irene was 93 years old and would have been 94 in May.  She had been sick for a while.  We also got to see some family that we only seem to see when there is a funeral.

Irene was married to my dad's oldest brother Herb.  Herb had passed several years before dad.  I do have a fond memory of aunt Irene.  Some 40 years ago (or more) I spent a day on their farm.  She showed me how to do a lot of things on the farm that day.  The one that stuck with me most was how to properly pick strawberries.  She would pick on and put it in the basket and then eat two.

We wanted to take mom out to dinner but she did not feel up to it.  Probably a good idea given how cold it was tonight.  Michelle and I stopped and ate a Coco Loco in Saginaw.  This is one of our favorite spots.  We had a good meal and then headed home.

Weekends go by way to fast and it is now time to get ready for the new week.

Stay tuned!

This was my grandmother's Lutheran Hymnal.  It was given to her on her confirmation.  It is over 100 years old and in German.  Mom also has her bible.  She is giving this to Amelith Lutheran Church.   We all had a really good time and it was a full day.    On Sunday we went to church and then to Michelle's mom and dad's for a late lunch and the annual easter egg hunt.     The kids had fun as always.   We had a really good meal then Michelle and I took a 2+ mile walk...

Summer Vacation: Day 6

We had a light breakfast and Michelle and I had to do a quick shopping trip.  We returned and had baked ravioli, salad and garlic toast.  A very good meal to hold us on our road trip.   Our stop was the Fayette Historic Townsite. This was a mining town that was abandoned.  The State of Michigan bought the site and turned it into a State Park.  Some of the buildings have been restored and others have not.  Some work has been done to some so they can remain standing. The Smelting building. Slag is a waste product of the smelting process. Michelle has been finding a lot of slag on our trip.  It is called many things and is in demand by rock hunters and jewelry makers. We returned to the house and had sandwiches before departing for Escanaba.  We found a spot to fish, I spotted small beach for Michelle to look for rocks.  We caught a couple fish, nothing to really talk about.  Michelle and Kayla found a l...

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...
