Camp Finale, Home At Last!

Saturday morning we woke up to rain.  The forecast was for rain all day.  We did breakfast in the cabin and rotated the campers through till everyone was fed.  The rain let up a little and the kids headed for the dome.  We managed to break down camp on the outside and by the time this was done it was time for closing.  Michelle and Dawn went to pick up pizza.  We had decided to do closing at the dome.

Pizza!

Questions and Answers.

Prizes!

Closing activities went well.  We had pizza, chips, pop, cake and ice cream.  Everyone seemed to enjoy it.  Michelle asked the kids some questions on what they learned and then gave out prizes to everyone that was involved.

I don't believe that this will rank as the best Church Camp to date?  We did learn some things and we took some losses.  The rain showed us that the tents leaked.  JJ's laptop got wet and he has since purchased a new one.  We are going to see if we can get the old one repaired or if it is worth it?  The Mongoose Vinson took a beating on the back of the van.  It was an expensive camp!

Prior to the closing Michelle and I decided that we were going to come home after closing.  We let the kids play for a while and we started to pack up.  We filled the van and headed home to sleep in our own bed.  That was well deserved.  Sunday morning we went back and finished packing up, cleaned the cabin and came back with both vehicles.  Camp was then officially over.

As I write this we are still cleaning and doing laundry from camp.  I think this is going to take a whole week.

Ore to Shore training was very successful!  The rain kept JJ from getting his first 20 mile ride of the year in.  Hoping to do that tomorrow night.  His work schedule is pretty full through the weekend.  We still have some work to do before August.

Next post will be on the bikes that will get us their!

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Summer Vacation: Day 8, Marquette

Day out started out cool, cloudy and windy.  It would stay like that the entire day.  After Michelle got up we took a little walk in the park by the bay.  It was very cool and returned to the house.  The plan for the day was to go to Marquette to visit Raymond and his family and have dinner with them. I received a text from Raymond that informed me the weather was not good there and it had not been for the entire week.  It had been very cold and windy.  He told me to bring warm clothes and we would probably be inside. We arrived at there location just after 3:00pm and it was cold and windy.  They told us it had been worse earlier in the day.  After talking for a while Angel started to make burgers and hot dogs on the grill.  We walked down to the beach with Raymond to discover that the beach was not really there.  The water has been so high this year and the waves were coming in so hard there was no beach.  They said they h...

My Dad

My last post was from Michelle and my anniversary celebration.  The day after we returned I received a call from my mom.  My dad was not doing well and needed to go to the hospital.  Michelle and I went to their house and we all took dad to the emergency room.  We had known for some time that he had Pulmonary Fibrosis for which there is no cure.  He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit later that day.  This would turn out to be his final journey. While in the Intensive Care Unit he received outstanding care from the staff at Covenant HealthCare.  Their compassionate care can not be equaled anywhere.  Dad's personality and belief in his creator also helped the staff and us through this difficult time.  During this time Dad was more concerned about us than himself.  He knew that soon he would meet Jesus face to face.  That was his comfort.  I made a promise to him that I would take care of mom and my family, just as he had c...
