Super Bowl Weekend

We once again had a busy weekend.  It was snowing early Saturday and we had hoped to go to Michelle's grandparents house to finish emptying it out.  The plans were cancelled when it started to snow and the prediction was for another 5-7 inches.  Michelle and I decided that we should do a little grocery shopping.  We went to Frankenmuth and returned a couple hours later.  We worked out together in the evening and did some cleaning in the basement.

On Sunday I cleaned the driveway which took a couple hours.  We went to church and when we got home we decided it was time to move the sofa from grandmas into the basement, move the table to the bonus room and bring in a stack of wood to the garage.  I cleaned a trail with the snow thrower to the basement window while JJ was loading wood into my truck.  We did our moving and Michelle and JJ started preparing for our Super Bowl party.  I went to the basement and rode the trainer for 50 minutes.

The game started and we had a great feast and the Garcia's came to watch the game.  That was the most lopsided Super Bowl I have seen in a long time.  Congratulations Seattle Seahawks.

Fat Bike Update: So I am waiting for my email that the bike has been shipped.  Over the weekend I ordered a skate type mountain bike helmet.  It has fewer and smaller vents which should make it warmer for winter riding.  I also ordered a set of tubes and a longer seat post all from Price Point.  I also ordered an air pressure gauge that will work with the high volume low pressure fat bike tires.

I also went through my parts so I would have my upgrades together. I will be putting on a Sram 11-34 cassette, X9 rear derailleur, XO Grip Shifts and a Sram chain.  I also have a Bontrager Race Lite Stem and a Forte Team handlebar in 720mm length. I have a few chain ring options also that I will experiment with.  There is a lot of work to be done in the bike shop leading up to spring/summer.

Thanks for reading.

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...

As I said in my previous post I had purchased a few things and would be introducing and reviewing them here.  Up next are: Surly Rim Strips:  These rime strips are designed for 80mm rims.  They also make them for 65mm and 100mm rims. They come in several colors. These are red and will go on the wheels that I have on the Vortex.  They are light weight, easy to work with and very durable.  I have these in various colors on most of my fat bike wheels.   Topeak Joe Blow Fat Tire Pump:  Following is from the Topeak Website: JoeBlow™ Fat The first floor pump exclusively designed for low pressure fat tire bikes.
