Bikes of Ore 2 Shore Part One

So I thought I would post the bikes we rode in the Ore 2 Shore race.  I will post mine first.  I rode a single speed so that I would not get over zealous and out run JJ.  My goal was to ride with him and get him on the podium.  It was successful. But I don't deserve the credit here, he did it!

Gary Fisher Superfly Single Speed

These bikes were first built as a prototype and avialable only to a few selcect team members who had great success on them. They were shown briefly to the public.  Everyone thought they were incredible.  The next year a limited number were produced and sold only to shop employees.  This is one of those bikes!  I came across it last year on eBay.  I had wanted one of these when they came out but the cost was out of my reach.  I put an offer on it and got it.  This is the bike I rode to Third Place at Barry-Roubaix!

This bike is incredibly light.  The build is as follows:

Gary Fisher Superfly SS frame (carbon)
Niner Carbon Fork
Crankbrothers Carbon bar 31.8, 690 wide
Truvativ Carbon seat post
Bontrager Race Lite saddle
DT Swiss X470 Rims with Surly Hubs
Kenda Karma 2.2 tires (1.9 for Barry Roubaix)
Bontrager Race Lite Stem
Shimano Free Wheel 18T
Truvative Team SS Crank
32 Tooth Race Face SS Chainring
Hayes Stoker Ryde brakes
Crankbrothers Eggbeater Pedals
Sram 8 Speed Chain

Love this bike.

Well time is running out tonight so I will post JJ's bike tomorrow night.

Summer Vacation: Day 10, Heading Home.

Sunday would be a long day of travel as we would make the trek home in one day.  Still shorter than driving from Marquette. We had breakfast and started to pack up.  I had put the bikes on the van Saturday evening while the grill was heating up and loaded a few things up.  We managed to get on the around just a few minutes after 12:00pm.   Michelle would take the first leg of the drive at the wheel of the van and I would rest.  We made a stop at a rest area in Manistique and I took a few photos. A lighthouse for Michelle.  A mouse in a tuxedo! We got back on the road and stopped at another rest area.   Very cool! Brendan made a friend. The were not to bad. Our next stop would be St. Ignace.  We wanted to eat at Clyde's Drive In.  However, after arriving the place was packed.  So we went to B.C. Pizza again.  After lunch we made our way to Castle Rock as we were not able to climb it on o...

End of Summer

The Best Time to Bike! On Saturday I traveled with Raymond to the Bear Claw Epic.  This was the second annual race and the second time up there for Raymond and I.  We got there with plenty of time to spare and got ready to go. Farley ready to go. I registered for Beginner Fat Bike or at least I thought so?  I felt pretty good and knowing that I only had one lap to do I went all out.  I passed several riders through the race and felt I did pretty good.  This course has a lot of climbing and rewards you with some nice downhills. After I finished my race I put on a fresh shirt and went out on the course with the camera and my new lens.  I took over 400 pictures and headed back to the start finish after Raymond finished his race. Raymond on his second lap. And the final climb. The beginner awards were going on and they announced my name as first place for Beginner Men 50-59.  I was surprised, but did not protest.  Aft...
