Happy Birthday

Today started out as any other day.  The first one out of bed and a little quiet time.  Except I turned 50 today.  Hard to believe it.  Michelle got up and I helped her around the house and got a start on things for the family party.  Around 11:30am I set out on a short bike ride of pavement and gravel.  I put 13 miles in for a nice 47 minute workout.  Just enough to clear my head for the rest of the day.

I did some more work around the house and then the family started showing up around 3pm.  Everyone made it this year, my mom and dad, Michelle's parents and Micah and Dawn's family.

We ran out of propane for the grill so Reuben and I went out and picked up a fresh tank and the grilling began.  Burgers, hot dogs and foot long hot dogs.  Then all the fixins to go along with them.  Baked beans, macaroni and cheese, fruit and so on.  Deserts also, cup cakes, german chocolate cake and ice cream.  I will need to ride again tomorrow.

Brendan is more excited then us.

I think I have him under control?

Presents are fun.

Summer Vacation: Day 10, Heading Home.

Sunday would be a long day of travel as we would make the trek home in one day.  Still shorter than driving from Marquette. We had breakfast and started to pack up.  I had put the bikes on the van Saturday evening while the grill was heating up and loaded a few things up.  We managed to get on the around just a few minutes after 12:00pm.   Michelle would take the first leg of the drive at the wheel of the van and I would rest.  We made a stop at a rest area in Manistique and I took a few photos. A lighthouse for Michelle.  A mouse in a tuxedo! We got back on the road and stopped at another rest area.   Very cool! Brendan made a friend. The were not to bad. Our next stop would be St. Ignace.  We wanted to eat at Clyde's Drive In.  However, after arriving the place was packed.  So we went to B.C. Pizza again.  After lunch we made our way to Castle Rock as we were not able to climb it on o...

End of Summer

The Best Time to Bike! On Saturday I traveled with Raymond to the Bear Claw Epic.  This was the second annual race and the second time up there for Raymond and I.  We got there with plenty of time to spare and got ready to go. Farley ready to go. I registered for Beginner Fat Bike or at least I thought so?  I felt pretty good and knowing that I only had one lap to do I went all out.  I passed several riders through the race and felt I did pretty good.  This course has a lot of climbing and rewards you with some nice downhills. After I finished my race I put on a fresh shirt and went out on the course with the camera and my new lens.  I took over 400 pictures and headed back to the start finish after Raymond finished his race. Raymond on his second lap. And the final climb. The beginner awards were going on and they announced my name as first place for Beginner Men 50-59.  I was surprised, but did not protest.  Aft...
