August 23, 2013 Jay Jay is 16!

Yesterday we celebrated JJ's 16th birthday.  It was a full day of activities that actually started the prior day.  I went to work early on Thursday so I could get out early and take him to his drivers test.  He was really nervous about this.  I talked with him on what he would need to do to relax and when we got there we ran into a few issues.  With them resolved the test started.  He first had to do some parking and a little driivng on the range.  He passed this segment and then we went on the road.  He completed this and got his certificate.  He was very excited.

Friday came early and I had to stop into work briefly and take care of a little business while Michelle took the boys to the Social Security Office to get JJ's card.  We then went to Genji's for lunch, a tradition for JJ's birthday.  With full stomachs we then went to the Secretary of State Office.  JJ needed to get his license, I needed to renew mine and we had to get new plates for two of our vehicles.  We got to the counter and were waited on by one of my former employees.  This helped to relieve any remaining anxiety in our crew!

We left the Secretary of State and headed for the pole barn at my old house.  We took the Dodge out of storage and JJ now has his vehicle.  He was really excited.  We told him that he can not drive it much till we get some work done on it.  That should take place this week.

JJ then had some of his friends over for pizza, cake and ice cream.  They also had a fire in the pit and the evening was a wrap.

With JJ's day complete that means only one thing.  My birthday, 50 years old.  Where did those years go?

Kids, enjoy it while you can.  Before you know it you are one of the old people.

Happy Labor Day!

So we had another busy week leading up to Labor Day Weekend.  On Wednesday we had Brendan's open house for 4th Grade.  We did some shopping after and I sold my Giant OCR. Giant OCR Composite 3 I bought this bike in 2005.  I put some good miles on it over the years.  For about 6 years it had been in the basement on the trainer.  I had rebuilt it this summer and took it out a couple of times.  It just seemed to big now.  I guess I am a little older and less flexible.  I decided to put it up for sale as it just did not fit any longer.  I found a nice young man that was looking for a road bike and he really liked it.  It is going to a good home and will be out on the road where it belongs. The funds from this sale went toward the purchase of a front wheel to go on the Farley and will fit the Bluto.  That wheel should be in some time this week. On Saturday morning we did not have Brendan.  He stayed at mom's with ...

End of Summer

The Best Time to Bike! On Saturday I traveled with Raymond to the Bear Claw Epic.  This was the second annual race and the second time up there for Raymond and I.  We got there with plenty of time to spare and got ready to go. Farley ready to go. I registered for Beginner Fat Bike or at least I thought so?  I felt pretty good and knowing that I only had one lap to do I went all out.  I passed several riders through the race and felt I did pretty good.  This course has a lot of climbing and rewards you with some nice downhills. After I finished my race I put on a fresh shirt and went out on the course with the camera and my new lens.  I took over 400 pictures and headed back to the start finish after Raymond finished his race. Raymond on his second lap. And the final climb. The beginner awards were going on and they announced my name as first place for Beginner Men 50-59.  I was surprised, but did not protest.  Aft...
