Iceman Eve

So today is the eve of the Iceman Cometh Challenge.  We were all prepared to leave at 9am today.  But things can change quickly.  Around 4:30pm on Thursday a page went out to leadership at work announcing that the CAP survey would take place at the lab at 8am on Friday.  Well, seeing that Michelle is a lab manager our plans went up in the air.  Giving the importance of this inspection we knew it was best that Michelle be there.  So we continued with our packing and Michelle went into work for the inspection.  She managed to get out before lunch and we were on the road by 12:30pm.

We arrived at the expo at the Grand Traverse Resort around 3:30pm and headed in.  The expo was in a different location this year and was packed.  JJ and I got in line to get our packets and as we went through I managed to get a few deals from vendors and a couple of freebees.  We got our packets and continued to roam around for a while.  I got a new jersey at the Kenda tent as well as a pair of socks.  I got a call from Raymond and him and Alexander were headed for Timber Ridge.  Together we rented a site for the weekend so we would have a base camp for the race.

We went to the campground and met Raymond and Alexander.  We staked off our turf and went over what we would be doing in the morning.  We picked up a couple bundles of firewood at the campground store and I also purchased a pint glass.  It is really cool.  It is made of rubber, I believe it is Brendan proof.

We went and checked  into the Cherry Tree and then met everyone at Ruby Tuesdays.  We had a very good meal and then retreated to our room for the night.  We need to be up bright and early in the morning so we can be at the campground for the start of the Slush Cup at 9am.

We encountered snow on the way up.

We encountered this in the parking lot at the expo.

More to follow this weekend after the results are in.

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

They come in several colors. These are red and will go on the wheels that I have on the Vortex.  They are light weight, easy to work with and very durable.  I have these in various colors on most of my fat bike wheels.   Topeak Joe Blow Fat Tire Pump:  Following is from the Topeak Website: JoeBlow™ Fat The first floor pump exclusively designed for low pressure fat tire bikes. Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...
