Fall is Here

We had some hot weather the first few days of September.  Was looking more like summer than it had in August.  Then the rain came in and we were treated to a cold front.  It has not been much over 60 degrees for the past several days.  Looks like it will stay this way till next weekend.

I was the second one up Saturday morning.  Brendan was up before me, he had been sick. But that doesn't slow him down much.  I decided to get some work done in the bike shop.  After Ore 2 Shore we made some bike decisions.  Michelle's bike frame was sold.  This was my old race bike a Giant NRS from the mid 90's.  Very nice bike, just getting old.  JJ really wants to do the Soft Rock next year and I will be sticking with Fat Bikes.  So I decided to give him my carbon 29er.  The wheels and tires stay with (Specialized DT Swiss wheels/Kenda Karma 29x2.2 tires).  I moved my drivetrain from the carbon bike to the Fat Bike.  Then disassembled JJ's current bike.

Getting Started

I had already put the crank, derailleurs, handlebar, stem, shifters and brake levers on the bike prior to this.

Avid BB7's are the brake of choice.

A couple hours later the bike was done.  I changed the crank to 2x9 (36/22).  The carbon seat post also stayed with the bike and the last touch was moving JJ's seat to the bike.  Pedals are Crank Brothers Candy C.

Completed bike.

I decided to get a ride in after finishing the bike.  Fortunately I checked the weather forecast.  We had a wind chill of 43 degrees.  So I got dressed up and took out the single speed for about 18 miles of riding.  I felt really good.

So the next project is getting Michelle's bike done.
Work has started.

The crank will be staying as well as the wheels and tires.  I have an X7 rear derailleur and I bought X7 trigger shifters.  Brake levers and BB7's have also been installed.  Just really need to put cables on and it will be ready to go.  I will then set it up on a trainer and have Michelle set on it so I can make the final adjustments.

I guess that is it for now.  Stay tuned!

Easter

Easter has come and gone.  It was a very busy couple of days.  We started out with Brendan getting very sick Wednesday night.  Luckily he was feeling better on Friday and we were able to enjoy the holiday.. Mom and Dad came out on Saturday.  We met them at Backwood's and had a late lunch.  We then came back to our house to color eggs and visit.     Mom's Work   Mom also brought this with her. This was my grandmother's Lutheran Hymnal.  It was given to her on her confirmation.  It is over 100 years old and in German.  Mom also has her bible.  She is giving this to Amelith Lutheran Church.   We all had a really good time and it was a full day.    On Sunday we went to church and then to Michelle's mom and dad's for a late lunch and the annual easter egg hunt.     The kids had fun as always.   We had a really good meal then Michelle and I took a 2+ mile walk...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...

Summer Vacation: Day 10, Heading Home.

Sunday would be a long day of travel as we would make the trek home in one day.  Still shorter than driving from Marquette. We had breakfast and started to pack up.  I had put the bikes on the van Saturday evening while the grill was heating up and loaded a few things up.  We managed to get on the around just a few minutes after 12:00pm.   Michelle would take the first leg of the drive at the wheel of the van and I would rest.  We made a stop at a rest area in Manistique and I took a few photos. A lighthouse for Michelle.  A mouse in a tuxedo! We got back on the road and stopped at another rest area.   Very cool! Brendan made a friend. The were not to bad. Our next stop would be St. Ignace.  We wanted to eat at Clyde's Drive In.  However, after arriving the place was packed.  So we went to B.C. Pizza again.  After lunch we made our way to Castle Rock as we were not able to climb it on o...
