Todays Ride on the new Bike

Woke up to a beautiful sunny day here at Thunderbay Resort.  After a couple cups of coffe and some fruit and yogurt I headed out on the bike for a short ride.  This was only my third time on the new mountain bike.  I went on the snowmobile trail here at the resort and did some exploring of the local dirt roads.  I discovered a little park and found where the elk are here on the property.  Seen a large bull elk and a cow.  Unfortunately I only had my iPhone for photos and they don't zoom in.  So no photos.

This was more of a test for the bike.  Back in April I purchased an Access Stealth 4.0 carbon MTB from Performance Bike.  On my second ride which was the Sweat Shaker race at Mid Michigan Community College in Harrison, Michigan I broke off the rear derailleur and put a hole in the frame on the right side seatstay near the dropout.  I was crushed.  I called Performance and they said they would send me a shipping label.  From the time of my call till receiving my new frame was 3 weeks.  Thank you Performance for your outstanding customer service.  To top it off they replaced the frame with the Stealth 1.0.

Brendan Holding the new frame.  His comment, "this is light!"

So I built the bike up in two days and it was tested out at the Shiawassee Wildlife Refuge in Saginaw.  We rode out there twice and now todays ride makes three.  The bike is very stiff yet compliant.  It weighs in around 26 lbs with what I would call a budget build.

Complete bike.

A few changes have been made to the bike since this photo was taken.  I decided to go with a triple chain ring combo on the front.  Still making minor adjustments to get it dialed in for the Shore Rock race at the Ore to Shore in Marquette.

Need to get ready for our afternoon and will post up the rest of the days activities this evening.

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...

They come in several colors.
