Great Day for a Ride!

Today was a beautiful day and we did some organizing in the garage and moved the last of our wood into the garage.  I vacuumed out the van and then went down stairs to prep one of the bikes for a ride.  Our road looked pretty sloppy so I decided to use one of the single speeds.  Earlier this morning I had started to work on the Zion.  I had bought some Problem Solvers cable guides so that I could run the rear hydraulic brake hose on the underside of the top tube.

Bike before the ride.  You can see the cable run in this photo.

This frame had odd cable guides on the top tube that would have required the brake lines to be removed and threaded through the guides.  Did not want to do that and don't really care for top tube routed cabling.

 Bike Spec:
Zion Single Speed frame with EBB
White Brothers Carbon Rigid Fork
Truvativ Sylo Seatpost
Fuji Seat with Ti rails

Easton EA30 low rise bar 680mm
Hayes Stroker Trail Hydraulic Disc Brakes

The bike rode great and I also tested the Garmin Edge 205 today.  I was about 3 to 3.5 miles into the ride when I realized the unit was not tracking distance.  I stopped andrealized that I had to take the unit off of pause.  It then started working.  The Garmin is really cool.  I downloaded the information when I got home.  My total ride was close to 16 miles.  The Garmin tracked 12.52 miles.  When downloaded you see how much climbing and descending you did, average speed, time, distance and many other thing.

Ready to ride.

If you look closely you can see that I have a camera mounted to my helmet.  It is an Epic Action Cam.  I got this from Michelle a year ago on my birthday.  I was having some issues with it at the last few races.  I but batteries in it and loaded a SD card.  Checked the settings over and used it on the ride.  It recorded the entire ride.  Hopefully it will continue to work.

It was nice to get out in the sun and enjoy a great ride.

Back home from a great ride.

Tomorrow is supposed to be another beautiful day with temperature around 40 degrees again.  It is also Super Bowl Sunday.  I will try to get another ride in after church and before the game.

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...

They come in several colors.
