Another Crazy Week

The Weather: The week started off as usual with work and a forecast for a few inches of snow on Tuesday.  By the Monday evening weather they said 4-6 inches of snow over Tuesday.  I got up Tuesday morning and turned on the news.  First thing I saw was a long listing of school closing, the boys did not have school.  When the weather came on they were now saying 7-9 inches of snow and the snow was already falling.  Michelle and I took the truck to work and that was a good thing.  Snow was coming down really heavy by mid afternoon.  It took us an hour to get home, usually takes 20-25 minutes.  We made our tracks into the driveway and we had at least 8 inches of snow.  I cleaned the driveway and another 4 inches fell by 10:00pm.  We got over a foot of snow in about 16 hours.

Jay Jay's truck Wednesday morning!

I worked on snow removal Wednesday evening and again on Friday when I got home.  In all I put around 4 hours in on snow removal.  It is Sunday now and it is above freezing and supposed to be all week.  They are saying it will get up to 60 degrees on Tuesday and should be at least in the 40's through Saturday.  The rivers are high already from last weeks snow and run off.  Hopefully there will not be any flooding.

Saturday Fun Day:  Michelle had a baby shower to go to and then she was going to stop by my mom's with a little bit of food.  So Brendan and I had the day together.  I got on the trainer around 11:00am and told Brendan to get in the shower and I would follow him.  I was stretching after riding when he yelled for me to come up stairs.  He had cut his thumb on Michelle's razor in the shower.  I got him patched up and got in the shower.

We left the house around 12:15pm and were headed for Bagger Dave's.  We got into Birch Run and traffic was backed up onto on I-75 heading for the Expo Center.  They were coming in for the Gun and Knife show.  So we decided to go to Applebee's so we could get in and out easy.  We had lunch and then went to Cinema Hollywood.  Before we got to buy our tickets we were told that Zootopia was sold out.  So we were on our way to Saginaw.  We got to the theater in time and saw the movie in 3D.  It was really good and we had a great time.

After the movie we headed back to Birch Run and stopped at Meijer.  I had a prescription and a couple other things to pick up.  I bought Brendan a Lego and we headed home.  Shortly after getting home Michelle pulled.  We had dinner and a nice evening relaxing together.  I am truly Blessed!

Bikes: So I got tired of waiting for the expander cog to arrive and pulled the Sunrace cassette off the 29er.

Now on the Vortex.

I put the new Sram PC 1031 chain on the bike, made a few adjustments and it is ready to go!  I pulled out the Park scale and got the weight, 31.09 pounds.  I am sure I could make it a little lighter with a carbon wheel set and going without tubes.  That would not be a cost effective effort.  I could also go tubeless with the current wheel set and shave a little weight.  That would take it below 30 pounds.  Probably ride it down to the park one day after work this week and give it a little test.

When the expander cog comes in it will go on the 29er along with the Sram cassette.

We may be trail riding in the next couple of weeks as there is no frost in the ground to slow the trails from drying.

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...
