Merry Christmas

So it is the day after Christmas and we are cleaning up and recovering.  It was a very busy week with work and the holiday.  We had to do some last minute shopping on Wednesday and Mom came out on Christmas Eve.

We were up early on Christmas Eve to clean the house and so I could get mom.  I had to stop at Meijer to get mom's short grocery list and then it was off to Auburn.  We left her house before 12pm and on our way to our house.  We had a very good visit and mom for the most part was in a good mood.  She even seemed to like the kittens.  She went our of her way to say goodbye to them and give them a kiss.  We also sent her home with a lot of leftovers!

Christmas Fun!

Christmas Love!

Mom wanted to leave just before it got dark so Michelle and I took her home while the boys stayed home and played video games.

Michelle and I got home and we had a little snack. We then retreated to the basement to finish up our Christmas Day preparation.  We did some present wrapping and I put most of the presents in larger boxes to make fewer trips.

We got Brendan ready for bed around 10:30pm.  It took a long time to get him settled in.  Michelle had to stay with him while I moved presents upstairs.  He finally settled in at 12:30am Christmas Day.  Michelle and I showered and we went to bed.

The fun began around 3:30am when Brendan woke us up the first time.  This continued till 6:30am when we decided to get up and open presents with Brendan.  JJ also joined us and we went for about an hour.  Michelle and I then went back to bed.  I got up about 10am and Michelle got up a half hour later.  We then started our preparation for the party at Mom and Dad's.

Michelle's mom had been sick for about a week.  We made a decision to get Panda House (Chinese) to make things easier.  I picked the food up on my way home from mom's on Christmas Eve.  All we had to do was heat the food up in the oven.  We started the party at mom and dad's around 3pm.  It was a lot of fun.

The food was really good and took a great deal of stress out of the day.  Brendan was starting to get a little grabby at times.  He started to feel really tired so we headed home around 8pm.  It took a lot of time to get him settled in again.  He did finally go to sleep when we did around 11pm.  He did get a good night sleep.  Unfortunately I did not!

Christmas fun is very tiring!

Today was a lot of clean up and winding down.  We had a few issues this morning but rode out the storm.  It has been a good day.  We are settling in now for the evening.  Tomorrow we are heading to Novi to go to Build-a-Bear Workshop!

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas with your families and friends!

This was my grandmother's Lutheran Hymnal.  It was given to her on her confirmation.  It is over 100 years old and in German.  Mom also has her bible.  She is giving this to Amelith Lutheran Church.   We all had a really good time and it was a full day.    On Sunday we went to church and then to Michelle's mom and dad's for a late lunch and the annual easter egg hunt.     The kids had fun as always.   We had a really good meal then Michelle and I took a 2+ mile walk...

Summer Vacation: Day 6

We had a light breakfast and Michelle and I had to do a quick shopping trip.  We returned and had baked ravioli, salad and garlic toast.  A very good meal to hold us on our road trip.   Our stop was the Fayette Historic Townsite. This was a mining town that was abandoned.  The State of Michigan bought the site and turned it into a State Park.  Some of the buildings have been restored and others have not.  Some work has been done to some so they can remain standing. The Smelting building. Slag is a waste product of the smelting process. Michelle has been finding a lot of slag on our trip.  It is called many things and is in demand by rock hunters and jewelry makers. We returned to the house and had sandwiches before departing for Escanaba.  We found a spot to fish, I spotted small beach for Michelle to look for rocks.  We caught a couple fish, nothing to really talk about.  Michelle and Kayla found a l...

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...
