November 2015

November is almost over and I just wanted to do a review of the month.  A lot of things have happened!

New Family Members: We got a couple of new kittens to join the household.  They are really cute.  One male (Luna) and one female (Esther).  We got them from Michelle's friend Lanette.  They are growing really fast.

Michelle's Birthday: We had a couple nice birthday celebrations for Michelle.  Her birthday was on Saturday this year.  We started the morning off with coffee and I presented her with her birthday card.  I made a video for her.  She then opened her present, a wet saw for her rock hobby.  We then went and had dinner at Bagger Dave's and Jay Jay was able to join us after his shift was over.  We also celebrated again at Genji's about 10 days later.

Thanksgiving: We did our annual Turkey Eve Mountain Bike ride on Wednesday before Thanksgiving.  There was four of us this year.  Raymond was unable to make it due to his new job and Mark had been sick for several days.  Don Miller, Don Stange, Jay Jay and myself made the ride.  The trail was wet, icy and snowy due to the snow storm we got the previous Saturday (10-12 inches in this area).  We rode Stoney Creek Metro Park this year for a change.  This has always been one of my favorite trails because of the mix of two track and single track.  Stoney also has a good amount of climbing.

After the ride Don Miller suggested to dine at the Brown Iron Brewhouse in Romeo.  This proved to be an excellent decision.  We started out with appetizers of Pig Candy (bacon smoked in honey) and Garlic Parmesian Fries.  They were excellent.  They do not brew their own beer, however they have around 60 micro brews on tap!  The lunch menu is not big, however everything is fresh and made in house.

We had a good ride and a really good time all around.  We will plan on doing the ride again next year.  While we were at Stoney Creek Michelle and Brendan went out and seen my mom.  Michelle had made our turkey on Wednesday and took Thanksgiving dinner to mom.  Mom did not want to come out on Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving morning came around and we did some of our Christmas shopping on line.  We had the family over at 2pm and had the entire family over.  Scottie and my mom were the only ones missing. The food was really good and we watched football all day.

Friday morning came around and Michelle and I did some more on line shopping.  After lunch Michelle had to go in to work for a short time and then she did some shopping while she was in town.  I did some work outside and then came in and worked in the bike shop a bit.

Bike Build: On Black Friday I received an email from Sarma Bikes alerting me of their Black Friday Sale.  They had their aluminum Vortex Frame on sale at an incredible price.  So incredible that I bought it.  I only need a few more parts and I will be able to put this bike together.  It may even be done by Christmas.  This was made possible by selling my last single speed.

Next Saturday is Global Fat Bike Day.  I plan on going to Sleepy Hollow State Park again for the ride there. Raymond will be going and Don Stange is planning on attending also.  Don bought a Specialized Fatboy Carbon Comp.  Very nice bike.

I guess that is all for now.  Christmas is just around the corner.

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...
