Fat Bike Update

A couple of post back I showed the Bluto fork that I had picked up.  It was lightly used and a good price.  They are not easy to find used and people are getting top dollar.

Ready for install.

Then I sold my Giant OCR Composite road bike.  The sale of this allowed the purchase of a nice wheel to fit the Bluto.  I went to The Stable and placed my order.  It was a QBP wheel build, Novatec 15x150 hub laced to Surly Rolling Darryl rim.  Very nice wheel!  I also picked up a blue Surly rim strip and a couple of Q-Tubes light tubes.  One for the wheel and one for the seat pack.  The wheel came in and the install was completed.

Ready to roll.

Unfortunately I was not able to get a weight with the Bluto on.  My luggage scale turns on but there is no display.  I will try changing the battery to see if that is the issue.  However, I would guess that it only added about 2-3 pounds which would put the bike at 31 pounds.

So last Sunday we took a trip to Bald Mountains North Trails for a little family ride.  Michelle, Brendan and Kayla did around 5 miles, Jay Jay and I did the full loop.  The Bluto completely changes the Farley.  This is the best trail bike I have ever ridden.  The big tires and suspension installs confidence on any terrain.  Rocks, roots and drops disappear under the bike now.  Just an incredible ride!

I got a gravel road ride in on it today.  I did 24 miles in preparation for next Saturday.  Raymond and I are planning on going to The Bear Claw Epic race in Cadillac, Michigan.  This is the first year for the race.  I will be riding Sport Clydesdale and the race will be around 22 miles.

I have ordered a front fender for the Farley as well as a new POV cam.  They both should be in before Saturday.  I will introduce them upon arrival and hopefully give a review after the race.

Stay tuned.

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Summer Vacation: Day 8, Marquette

Day out started out cool, cloudy and windy.  It would stay like that the entire day.  After Michelle got up we took a little walk in the park by the bay.  It was very cool and returned to the house.  The plan for the day was to go to Marquette to visit Raymond and his family and have dinner with them. I received a text from Raymond that informed me the weather was not good there and it had not been for the entire week.  It had been very cold and windy.  He told me to bring warm clothes and we would probably be inside. We arrived at there location just after 3:00pm and it was cold and windy.  They told us it had been worse earlier in the day.  After talking for a while Angel started to make burgers and hot dogs on the grill.  We walked down to the beach with Raymond to discover that the beach was not really there.  The water has been so high this year and the waves were coming in so hard there was no beach.  They said they h...

My Dad

My last post was from Michelle and my anniversary celebration.  The day after we returned I received a call from my mom.  My dad was not doing well and needed to go to the hospital.  Michelle and I went to their house and we all took dad to the emergency room.  We had known for some time that he had Pulmonary Fibrosis for which there is no cure.  He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit later that day.  This would turn out to be his final journey. While in the Intensive Care Unit he received outstanding care from the staff at Covenant HealthCare.  Their compassionate care can not be equaled anywhere.  Dad's personality and belief in his creator also helped the staff and us through this difficult time.  During this time Dad was more concerned about us than himself.  He knew that soon he would meet Jesus face to face.  That was his comfort.  I made a promise to him that I would take care of mom and my family, just as he had c...
