February Update

It has been over a month since I posted so I figure I should bring things up to date. A lot has happened.

On January 24, 2015 I did the Lake Orion High School Winter MTB Race.  Raymond and I went down for the race.  The weather was perfect and the course was in great shape.  The Steve Kinley and the crew at LOHS did a great job clearing the course.  There was a good turn out and it even snowed for a while.  We both rode the B Class Fat Bike race.  Raymond got second place and I was 9th.  The Vinson performed great.
Vinson ready to role at LOHS.

February 10, 2015 was mom's birthday.  Michelle, Brendan and I stopped out for a while.  Mom is 88 now.

Brendan has been playing basketball.  This Saturday will be his last game for this season.  He really seems to enjoy it.

Basketball anyone?

We took the boys to the Bavarian Inn this past weekend.  We spent Friday night there and half the day on Saturday.  We had a lot of fun.  Spent more time in the arcade than in the pool.  They do have a pretty cool new water slide!

I then took the time on Valentines day to set up the Green Machine for Michelle.  That is now her fat bike.  I started to do additional upgrades to the Vinson.  The frame is under 5 lbs. I believe I can get it down to 30 pounds after these upgrades.  The heaviest part that I have taken off the bike at this time is the crank and bottom bracket.  I have put a Samox Fat Bike crank for a 190 rear on the bike.

Non-drive side clearance.

Drive side clearance.

I am waiting for the front derailleur mount to come in.  Little concerned about the chain line.  Will see once the derailleur and chain are on.  Have also added a Sram 1030 cassette, X9 rear derailleur, X9 shifters and Elixir brakes.  All these parts came off my carbon 29er that I gave to JJ.

The only other major weight savings would be the wheelset.  That would cost some money.

This Sunday is the Endurance Sports Expo and Swap meet.  Taking a lot of stuff with me.  Meeting Raymond down there.  He reserved us some tables.  Looking forward to it.

That pretty much brings us up to date.  I will post pics and spec of the Vinson when it is completed.  Till next time.

Easter

Easter has come and gone.  It was a very busy couple of days.  We started out with Brendan getting very sick Wednesday night.  Luckily he was feeling better on Friday and we were able to enjoy the holiday.. Mom and Dad came out on Saturday.  We met them at Backwood's and had a late lunch.  We then came back to our house to color eggs and visit.     Mom's Work   Mom also brought this with her. This was my grandmother's Lutheran Hymnal.  It was given to her on her confirmation.  It is over 100 years old and in German.  Mom also has her bible.  She is giving this to Amelith Lutheran Church.   We all had a really good time and it was a full day.    On Sunday we went to church and then to Michelle's mom and dad's for a late lunch and the annual easter egg hunt.     The kids had fun as always.   We had a really good meal then Michelle and I took a 2+ mile walk...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...

Summer Vacation: Day 10, Heading Home.

Sunday would be a long day of travel as we would make the trek home in one day.  Still shorter than driving from Marquette. We had breakfast and started to pack up.  I had put the bikes on the van Saturday evening while the grill was heating up and loaded a few things up.  We managed to get on the around just a few minutes after 12:00pm.   Michelle would take the first leg of the drive at the wheel of the van and I would rest.  We made a stop at a rest area in Manistique and I took a few photos. A lighthouse for Michelle.  A mouse in a tuxedo! We got back on the road and stopped at another rest area.   Very cool! Brendan made a friend. The were not to bad. Our next stop would be St. Ignace.  We wanted to eat at Clyde's Drive In.  However, after arriving the place was packed.  So we went to B.C. Pizza again.  After lunch we made our way to Castle Rock as we were not able to climb it on o...
