New Year Has Passed

Our New Year vacation ended when we went to work this morning.  It was a really nice vacation.  On New Year Day I had planned to do a ride to kick off the New Year.  Unfortunately I slept in and then the morning passed.  I decided to get on the trainer and watch the start of the MSU game.  It looked like they were going to get blown out.  Then things changed in the second half.  What great game and come back by MSU.  Michelle's family then came over and we watched more football and ate left overs from New Years Eve.  It was a very low key day.

On Friday I was able to get out for a nice 13 plus mile ride on the Green Machine.  It was a beautiful day.   I was on a false flat of the biggest climb of the day and seen this view.  So I snapped a couple pics with my phone.

On Saturday we started to do some housework and we woke up to some snow.  The roads were covered so I took the Mongoose out for a nice 8 mile ride.  Handled very well in the snow.  I was also testing out the new seat post shim and a carbon seat post.  The post was slipping so I will be trying an aluminum post next.  We then headed for mom's to take her groceries and visit.  The roads were bad and we had a detour due to an accident.  We made it and had a nice visit.

Sunday brought more snow and a cold front.  We got home from church, had lunch and did a little work around the house.  I got dressed and took the Mongoose out for a short ride.  I went to the Taymouth Twp. Park just around the corner from our house and road around for about an hour.  Got around 5 miles in.

At the park.

I returned home and Brendan was sledding out back.  So I got dry clothes on and Michelle and I went out and did some sledding with him.  It was fun!

After sledding I came in and took the Mongoose to the bike shop for some work.  I swapped out the carbon post for an aluminum post.  I also removed the big ring off the crank as I don't think it will be used in the snow.  I bought this bike for snow riding and eventually will change it to a 2x10 after I collect all the parts.  That is going to take a while and I am in no hurry.  I also watched the Lions play Dallas in the wild card game.  Not much to say about that.  It was time to turn in for the night and so we did.

Next up is our church Christmas Party that we host on Saturday.  Stay tuned.

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...
