Spring Update 2014

It has been over 2 months since I made a post so it is time to get up to date.  During the time that dad was in the hospital Michelle and I determined we would have to raise the rent on my house.  We were notified almost immediately that our renters would be moving out.  We decided that it was time to sell the house and move on.  Fortunately for financial reasons on our end the renters are still there.  There was a lot of work to do and the house went on the market June 9, 2014.  Still a few things to do there, just no rush.  Praying for a quick sale.

Three holidays have passed now also.  Just not the same without dad.  Father's Day was happy and sad.  Comfort came in know that dad was celebrating with his Heavenly Father!

Mom is doing better.  She is starting to get here appetite back and sleeping better.  She is still staying at her house.   We go out there at least once a week to help her out.  I know she wants to stay in her house, but I would feel better if she were here with us.

The kids got out of school on Friday.  They are happy summer is here.  It seems like we went from winter right to summer.  We already are into extreme heat and no rain.

Next week is church camp.  So we are now preparing for that.  We are also doing some cooking for Tyler and Kayla's graduation party this Saturday.

Started to train for Ore to Shore.  Started my weightlifting back up and got back on the bike.  The hard work have kept my weight and strength down.  Kind of like I never stopped training.  Hoping to do the XC race at Midland City Forest on July 13 to test my fitness.  I am planning on riding the fat bike at Ore to Shore.  So City Forest will be a good test for the bike set up also.

I have sold a lot of parts, etc. since the new year.  I will update on the latest bike change soon.

That pretty much gets things up to date.  Stay tuned.

Easter

Easter has come and gone.  It was a very busy couple of days.  We started out with Brendan getting very sick Wednesday night.  Luckily he was feeling better on Friday and we were able to enjoy the holiday.. Mom and Dad came out on Saturday.  We met them at Backwood's and had a late lunch.  We then came back to our house to color eggs and visit.     Mom's Work   Mom also brought this with her. This was my grandmother's Lutheran Hymnal.  It was given to her on her confirmation.  It is over 100 years old and in German.  Mom also has her bible.  She is giving this to Amelith Lutheran Church.   We all had a really good time and it was a full day.    On Sunday we went to church and then to Michelle's mom and dad's for a late lunch and the annual easter egg hunt.     The kids had fun as always.   We had a really good meal then Michelle and I took a 2+ mile walk...

Summer Vacation: Day 6

We had a light breakfast and Michelle and I had to do a quick shopping trip.  We returned and had baked ravioli, salad and garlic toast.  A very good meal to hold us on our road trip.   Our stop was the Fayette Historic Townsite. This was a mining town that was abandoned.  The State of Michigan bought the site and turned it into a State Park.  Some of the buildings have been restored and others have not.  Some work has been done to some so they can remain standing. The Smelting building. Slag is a waste product of the smelting process. Michelle has been finding a lot of slag on our trip.  It is called many things and is in demand by rock hunters and jewelry makers. We returned to the house and had sandwiches before departing for Escanaba.  We found a spot to fish, I spotted small beach for Michelle to look for rocks.  We caught a couple fish, nothing to really talk about.  Michelle and Kayla found a l...

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...
