Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!  I guess I am a few days late on this.  As usual we have been very busy.  Doesn't feel like we have had a chance to relax since Thanksgiving?  The temps have been below normal almost everyday since Thanksgiving. We had a couple breaks in the cold but then right back.  We have also had more snow in the last month than we have had in the past two winters.  I have used the snow thrower twice this week alone.

Plans were up in the air for Christmas until last weekend when we watched the forecast.  We decided that given the forecast we would celebrate Christmas with my mom and dad on Christmas Eve and Michelle's family on Christmas Day.  This turned out to be an excellent plan as we got a few inches of snow on Christmas Eve night.

Michelle and I started prep for Christmas over the weekend and stayed up late on the 23rd.  We got an early start on Christmas Eve.  We cleaned, cooked and prepared for my!

Michelle hard at work!

I even played a video game.

Mom and dad left sometime after 3pm and Michelle and I took a nap.  After getting up we did some cleaning and finally got the boys in bed.  Then it was time to do some wrapping.  Another late night.

So I was the first one up on Christmas morning and started a fire.  I was surprised to have JJ join me shortly after this.  Brendan was not far behind.  Michelle got out of bed and then it was time to open presents.  The house was a mess.

I made some breakfast and we did some more cleaning and prepared for our journey to Michelle's mom and dad's.  We got to the Mason's shortly after 2pm.  We had a great meal of prime rib.  Then the kids got to open some presents.  We had a really good time!

My beautiful wife!

We all seemed to be suffering from a Christmas hangover and retreated to our own homes.  We relaxed for a while and got the boys in bed.  It was a long couple of days and it was time to rest.

Now lets not forget what the season is all about:

Shepherds were in the fields near Bethlehem.  And angel from the Lord suddenly appeared to them. The glory of the Lord filled the area with light, and they were terrified.  The angel said to them, "Don't be afraid! I have good news for you, a message that will fill everyone with joy.  Today your Savior, Christ the Lord, was born in David's city.  This how you will recognize him: You will find an infant wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger."  Suddenly, a large army of angels appeared with the angel. They were praising God by saying, "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those who have his good will."

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Easter

Easter has come and gone.  It was a very busy couple of days.  We started out with Brendan getting very sick Wednesday night.  Luckily he was feeling better on Friday and we were able to enjoy the holiday.. Mom and Dad came out on Saturday.  We met them at Backwood's and had a late lunch.  We then came back to our house to color eggs and visit.     Mom's Work   Mom also brought this with her. This was my grandmother's Lutheran Hymnal.  It was given to her on her confirmation.  It is over 100 years old and in German.  Mom also has her bible.  She is giving this to Amelith Lutheran Church.   We all had a really good time and it was a full day.    On Sunday we went to church and then to Michelle's mom and dad's for a late lunch and the annual easter egg hunt.     The kids had fun as always.   We had a really good meal then Michelle and I took a 2+ mile walk...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...

Summer Vacation: Day 10, Heading Home.

Sunday would be a long day of travel as we would make the trek home in one day.  Still shorter than driving from Marquette. We had breakfast and started to pack up.  I had put the bikes on the van Saturday evening while the grill was heating up and loaded a few things up.  We managed to get on the around just a few minutes after 12:00pm.   Michelle would take the first leg of the drive at the wheel of the van and I would rest.  We made a stop at a rest area in Manistique and I took a few photos. A lighthouse for Michelle.  A mouse in a tuxedo! We got back on the road and stopped at another rest area.   Very cool! Brendan made a friend. The were not to bad. Our next stop would be St. Ignace.  We wanted to eat at Clyde's Drive In.  However, after arriving the place was packed.  So we went to B.C. Pizza again.  After lunch we made our way to Castle Rock as we were not able to climb it on o...
