Iceman Friday

This year we were not sure if we would even make Iceman.  Michelle's Grandfather passed away on Tuesday.  We didn't tell her mother our weekend plans because we did not want that to play into the planning of the funeral.  If things worked out they would work out.  We learned late Wednesday that the funeral would be on Friday (more on that later).  So we decided to go ahead with Iceman.

By the time we got home, got the van loaded, picked up JJ's girlfriend, got gas, got food and got on the road it was after 5pm.  We didn't stop till we got to Grayling and then drove straight to Traverse City to the Expo.  It was shortly after 8pm when we reached the expo.  We got inside and picked up our race packets. After that we did a short walk of the expo to see what was there.  Brendan was in search of a free water bottle.

This year my focus was looking at taking photos of as many Fatbikes as I could.  Here is a sampling of what I saw.  There are several more that I may post later.

Trek Farley

Specialized Fatboy

616 Fabrication, belt Drive

Borealis Carbon

After the expo we headed for our final destination of the Comfort Inn.  We got to our room and it did take some time to settle in for the evening.  We informed everyone that we would be up early to get to the race start on time and turned out the lights.

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Introducing!

As I said in my previous post I had purchased a few things and would be introducing and reviewing them here.  Up next are: Surly Rim Strips:  These rime strips are designed for 80mm rims.  They also make them for 65mm and 100mm rims. They come in several colors. These are red and will go on the wheels that I have on the Vortex.  They are light weight, easy to work with and very durable.  I have these in various colors on most of my fat bike wheels.   Topeak Joe Blow Fat Tire Pump:  Following is from the Topeak Website: JoeBlow™ Fat The first floor pump exclusively designed for low pressure fat tire bikes. Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...
