Introduction

I thought that an introduction was in line before we start posting other activities.  I am Dennis Bauer, I married Michelle in March of 2009 and she had 2 sons, Jason(Jay Jay, 13) and Brendan(5).  So this is our family.

Back in 2002 I had become very out of shape and overwieght.  I was not very happy with myself.  So I started cycling.  I lost weight rapidly and fell in love with the sport, especially mountain bike racing.  I currently ride for team my singlespeed and have for 4 years.  I introduced Michelle and the boys to cycling and they introduced me to the family life.  I don't know what I would do without them.

This spring I became a certified Intermediate Coach for the AYSO and coached Jason's U14 Co-ed Soccer team in Birch Run.  I played for several years when I was younger, last playing Men's Open Soccer with the Bay City Kickers until the club folded.  Coaching the kids has been a great experience and a lot of fun.  Being able to actually run and play on the field with the kids reminded me of how much I loved that game.  Brendan also plays and finished up this spring in U5.  He will move to U6 this fall.  The cycling helps them with their fitness.

Jason also plays the trumpet and has natural talent at music.  He recently returned from band camp where he played with the high school band instead of his 8th grade band.  He wants to start playing percussion this year.  He will do well at whatever he commits himself to.

Brendan will start first grade this year.  He is a ball of energy and never stops talking.  You stay in shape just trying to keep up with him.

My wife (Michelle) is an incredible woman, very smart and incredibly beautiful.  Not sure why she picked me, which is a story all in itself.  Probably should let her tell that.  She is a wonderful mother and takes great care of all of us.  This spring she created an incredible garden from nothing.  She has so many talents it would take up several pages to list them.  I knew on our first date that she would be my wife.  God is truly incredible in how he blesses us.

This week we will be heading to Grayling for the Log Splitter Mountain Bike race.  All of us boys will be racing.  My race is 28 miles, Jason's is 3 miles and Brendan will do the kids race with his cousin MacKenzie.  In August we will make our annual pilgrimage to the Upper Peninsula for the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike race.  The kids really enjoy this vacation.

Well enough for now.  I will post a few picks below.

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...

They come in several colors. These are red and will go on the wheels that I have on the Vortex.  They are light weight, easy to work with and very durable.  I have these in various colors on most of my fat bike wheels.   Topeak Joe Blow Fat Tire Pump:  Following is from the Topeak Website: JoeBlow™ Fat The first floor pump exclusively designed for low pressure fat tire bikes.
