November 2016

The month is almost over and I thought I would cover some of what took place this month.

Our oldest cat passed away.  He was over 20 years old.  I had found Chance on the highway when he was about 6 weeks old.  He hardly had any hair and was covered in fleas.  The vet was not sure he would even make it.  He survived and grew very strong and very sweet.  He would always want to cuddle with everyone.  He will be remembered and missed.

Chance and Mom.

I have sold a few bikes that have been setting around and not being ridden.  The first was my Giant TCX cross bike.  No one had been on it for over a year.  The next was the Green Machine.  They should both see some use now.  Doesn't make sense to have them setting around.  I also have a couple of wheel sets and a lot of tires up for sale.  Hope to move some of that out and get some extra space back in the shop.

Thanksgiving came and went and now we are headed to Christmas.  We took the Wednesday off before Thanksgiving and made a 5 day vacation of it.  Michelle made a full Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday.  We then picked up mom's groceries and took her Thanksgiving dinner as she would not come out for the holiday (hoping she comes out for Christmas).  Thursday we started working early to prepare the house for the family.  We got the house cleaned up and family started to arrive at 2:30pm and we were having Thanksgiving Dinner.  It was a very nice holiday!

Coco camped out on Uncle Leonard most of the afternoon.

Esther and Luna went into a Turkey coma.

I have started to do some more riding and will work my way back into shape.  Michelle and I have been riding the stationary bikes a couple mornings a week.  Over Thanksgiving Vacation I rode four of the five days.  They were not long rides, but I got out on the bike.

It snowed the day before Thanksgiving.

I rode to the park.

On Black Friday we did our annual Thanksgiving ride.  We met up at Stoney Creek Metro Park, there was four of us.  Don Miller, Craig Morris, Raymond Leach and myself.  We all rode the fat bikes.  It was a little wet and a lot of leaves.

My custom Vortex.

Raymonds custom Framed Carbon.

Don's Vortex.

Van is loaded and ready to leave.

We finished the ride and headed for the Brown Iron Brewhouse.  They have really good food.  I had a great bacon cheeseburger, next visit I will get the sliders.  Don and Craig got them and they looked really good.

Craig guarding the Christmas Tree!

We had a great time and this Saturday is Global Fat Bike Day.  We will be riding together again.  This year we are going to Island Lake to join the group ride there.  Should be a lot of fun.

My Dad

My last post was from Michelle and my anniversary celebration.  The day after we returned I received a call from my mom.  My dad was not doing well and needed to go to the hospital.  Michelle and I went to their house and we all took dad to the emergency room.  We had known for some time that he had Pulmonary Fibrosis for which there is no cure.  He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit later that day.  This would turn out to be his final journey. While in the Intensive Care Unit he received outstanding care from the staff at Covenant HealthCare.  Their compassionate care can not be equaled anywhere.  Dad's personality and belief in his creator also helped the staff and us through this difficult time.  During this time Dad was more concerned about us than himself.  He knew that soon he would meet Jesus face to face.  That was his comfort.  I made a promise to him that I would take care of mom and my family, just as he had c...

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Summer Vacation: Day 8, Marquette

Day out started out cool, cloudy and windy.  It would stay like that the entire day.  After Michelle got up we took a little walk in the park by the bay.  It was very cool and returned to the house.  The plan for the day was to go to Marquette to visit Raymond and his family and have dinner with them. I received a text from Raymond that informed me the weather was not good there and it had not been for the entire week.  It had been very cold and windy.  He told me to bring warm clothes and we would probably be inside. We arrived at there location just after 3:00pm and it was cold and windy.  They told us it had been worse earlier in the day.  After talking for a while Angel started to make burgers and hot dogs on the grill.  We walked down to the beach with Raymond to discover that the beach was not really there.  The water has been so high this year and the waves were coming in so hard there was no beach.  They said they h...
