Vacation 2016, Day 6. On the Road Again!

After a good night sleep, some coffee and a little more review of photos we were packed up and ready to hit the road.  We had close to 5 hours of travel ahead of us.  I knew that meant close to 8 hours after making stops.

The roads in Canada were very nice and there was a great deal of road construction (much like Michigan).  It was not to difficult to navigate and we were well on our way to our first stop.  Right away Michelle spied a large body of water that we determined to be Lake Ontario.  The last lake in the chain of the Great Lakes.  So we detoured off the interstate and made a stop.  We had lunch at Subway then went to a Marina to check out the lake.

This old ship is by the marina.  It was once a floating restaurant and was going to be revived until someone set it on fire.  It now just sets here abandoned and rusting.

Lake Ontario

We spent a little time rock hunting.  Michelle managed to fill a medium beverage cup with our finds.  We were then back on the road.  After a couple more hours of driving we finally came to a travel center and took a little break.

I made a new friend at the Travel Center.

After our break we were ready for the last leg of our trip.  Soon we were at the Border Crossing from Sarnia, Ontario to Port Huron, Michigan.  The border crossing took about a half hour.

Blue Water Bridge

Barge in the river.

We were now back in Michigan and about 90 minutes from home.  We stopped near Imlay City and got something to eat.

Country Smoke House 2 miles south of I-69 near Imlay City.

I highly recommend this for a food stop.  Good food, good price and quick!  A quick stop for gas and we were home before we knew it.  All the cats greeted us at the door!  It was one of our best vacations.

Conclusions: Kalahari was nice, but not worth the cost.  Everything was overpriced.  They have you there so they take advantage of it.  If I want to take the family to a water park we will go to Frankenmuth and save a lot of time.  The traffic jam was actually one of the best parts of the trip!

Niagara Falls was incredible.  I would spend more time at this location and I believe that we will go back some time.  Will just need to be better prepared with a budget for this.

We had a lot of fun but this may also have been one of our more expensive vacations. It may also be the last one that Jay Jay takes with us?  So it was worth the price.

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Independence Day

Another busy weekend and celebration of our country's independence.  I got a short ride in on Friday morning.  We then were preparing for a wedding.  Barb and Steve, a couple at our church were getting married and the ceremony/reception would be at Dawn and Reuben's house.  Reuben performed the ceremony and I was asked to do the photography.  This worked out great as I had purchased a used Sony DSLR camera on eBay and got to test it out.  It was a very nice ceremony and celebration with our church family and friends.   You may kiss the bride!   We then stuck around and all of us went to the fireworks at the Clio Park to cap off the evening.  We got home late and went right to bed.   I slept in a bit on Saturday morning and got up to watch the start of the Tour de France.  It was a good stage with a sprint finish and a bad crash that took Mark Cavendish out of the race.  I then ventured out on a 23 mile ride o...
