Day 3, Marquette

Day 3 actually started before we got to bed.  So with a late night came a late morning.  We were out of the hotel in time for lunch.  We then met Raymond, Alexander and Madilyn for a ride on the North Marquette trails.
The trailhead.
The crew ready to depart on their adventure.

We headed out on what was one of the last sections of trail for Saturdays Ore 2 Shore.  We rode out a ways and then Michelle and the littlest ones headed back.  Alexander, JJ and I split onto some single track.  After about a mile we ran into some real technical riding and headed back.  We returned to the trailhead and decided to ride the last part of trail to the race end at the arena.  We met back up with Michelle and returned to the hotel.

We cleaned up and went to Bonanza for dinner.  After steaks and all you can eat salad bar/buffet we waddled out.  We then headed to Presque Isle.  Michelle and the boys got a lesson in rocks and we watched the cliff jumpers.
Looking for rocks.
One of the jumpers.
My incredible wife!

Sunset on Presque Isle.
We headed back to the hotel for some time in the pool and hot tub.  We then retreated to the room for a movie and sleep.  Tomorrow is Friday and the day before the race.  Till then have a good night.

My Dad

My last post was from Michelle and my anniversary celebration.  The day after we returned I received a call from my mom.  My dad was not doing well and needed to go to the hospital.  Michelle and I went to their house and we all took dad to the emergency room.  We had known for some time that he had Pulmonary Fibrosis for which there is no cure.  He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit later that day.  This would turn out to be his final journey. While in the Intensive Care Unit he received outstanding care from the staff at Covenant HealthCare.  Their compassionate care can not be equaled anywhere.  Dad's personality and belief in his creator also helped the staff and us through this difficult time.  During this time Dad was more concerned about us than himself.  He knew that soon he would meet Jesus face to face.  That was his comfort.  I made a promise to him that I would take care of mom and my family, just as he had c...

Summer Vacation Day 4: The ER

Day four started out with beautiful weather.  We had breakfast and Michelle took Brendan fishing.  I decided I would take a ride on the bike and do a little recon for a family bike ride. I set off east to ride toward Rapid River.  I rode around the the edge of the bay and took a few pictures. Dunes on the edge of Gladstone. This was around 4-5 miles out of town in a small subdivision. The photo above is of a small river I crossed, unfortunately I cannot remember the name.  I thought I found a bike trail that would be nice for all of us.  Unfortunately it was swampy and not kept up.  I headed back to Gladstone and met Michelle and Brendan out on the fishing dock. I sat with them for a while and Brendan caught this. This is a Gobi.  An invasive species of the Great Lakes. After a few minutes I started back to the house.  On the way I started to have some chest pain.  After showering it had not let up. ...

Summer Vacation: Day 8, Marquette

Day out started out cool, cloudy and windy.  It would stay like that the entire day.  After Michelle got up we took a little walk in the park by the bay.  It was very cool and returned to the house.  The plan for the day was to go to Marquette to visit Raymond and his family and have dinner with them. I received a text from Raymond that informed me the weather was not good there and it had not been for the entire week.  It had been very cold and windy.  He told me to bring warm clothes and we would probably be inside. We arrived at there location just after 3:00pm and it was cold and windy.  They told us it had been worse earlier in the day.  After talking for a while Angel started to make burgers and hot dogs on the grill.  We walked down to the beach with Raymond to discover that the beach was not really there.  The water has been so high this year and the waves were coming in so hard there was no beach.  They said they h...
