Dad's 86th Birthday Celebration

My Dad's birthday was Friday, July 29, 2011, he is now 86 years old.  So today we celebrated his birthday at Backwood's, a local bar and grill (formerly Gracie's in Burt, MI).  I highly recommend this restaurant, great food at great prices.  We all had the lunch buffet then retreated to our house where two blueberry pies and blueberry coffee cake awaited us.  Oh yes, don't forget the ice cream. Brendan had to show mom and dad the garden and give them the full tour.  Mom was really moving around well and dad enjoyed the garden.  You can take the boy off the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the boy.  Happy Birthday Dad!  We Love You! Mom and Michelle decided to have a tea party.  So after pie cake and ice cream mom and dad prepared to head home.  Brendan went out and picked some blackberry's.  Dad really liked them.  After hugs and pleasantries they were on the road to Auburn. So I decided it was time for a bik...

Log Splitter Mountain Bike Race

We spent the weekend of July 16, 2011 in Grayling, Michigan at the Yogi Bear park.  I raced in the Log Splitter Mountain Bike race in the Open Men's Division.  This is a point to point race that started at Higgins Lake State Park and finished at Hanson Hills Ski Area.  The race 28 miles long and consisted of 2 track, gravel roads, a little paved roads and over 14 miles of single track.  A great race, however I did not fare so well.  I am sport class racer and finished low in the open division.  Hopefully in the future they will break down the classes more as the race grows.  JJ did the junior race and got third place, finishing ahead of his cousin Scott.  Brendan did the kids race and also finished third.  They seemed to have fun. Brendan at the finish. JJ finishing strong. Brendan in front, Dennis, JJ, Scott, MacKenzie and Reuben after the Junior Race. The heat was unbelievable the whole weekend.  The only comfortable place was in t...

Introduction

I thought that an introduction was in line before we start posting other activities.  I am Dennis Bauer, I married Michelle in March of 2009 and she had 2 sons, Jason(Jay Jay, 13) and Brendan(5).  So this is our family.  Back in 2002 I had become very out of shape and overwieght.  I was not very happy with myself.  So I started cycling.  I lost weight rapidly and fell in love with the sport, especially mountain bike racing.  I currently ride for team my singlespeed and have for 4 years.  I introduced Michelle and the boys to cycling and they introduced me to the family life.  I don't know what I would do without them. This spring I became a certified Intermediate Coach for the AYSO and coached Jason's U14 Co-ed Soccer team in Birch Run.  I played for several years when I was younger, last playing Men's Open Soccer with the Bay City Kickers until the club folded.  Coaching the kids has been a great experience and a lot of fun....
